2009 EventProfs Blog Awards

epnominee_20091It seems only fitting that on my ‘Blog of the Week’ day I feature a blog that features us. Recently we found out that our blog has been nominated in the 2009 EventProfs Blog Awards under the category of ‘Industry Advancement Blogs’. Naturally we are very excited here as these awards are predominantly American and include some fabulous US blogs that I follow all the time. So we are in good company. In particular ‘Ready to Spark’ who are the fabulous hosts for these awards.

What I love about this particular blog is the amount of topics that it covers. If you are lost for inspiration or need a helping hand to come up with something unique and different, Lara McCulloch will help you to re-ignite your creativity. I have seen some great new concepts on her blog that I would otherwise not have known about. One of my favourite recently was of ‘Strange Fruit’ which features performers who are stuck high up in the air on poles and then proceed to bend and sway rhythmically whilst the audience look up completely captivated. The You Tube Clip from New York City was amazing – it is a combination of dance, theatre, acrobatics & art. Imagine my surprise when I find out that this act is actually Australian born and bred in our wonderful city of Melbourne.

It does of course beg the question, why hadn’t I heard of them before? Why did it take me reading a post on Ready To Spark to know about them? I guess the answer is that in Australia we take a little longer to catch onto things. We don’t spend as much time as we should researching what’s new in the industry and what’s happening beyond our own doorstep. I know I have said it before but I will say it again – you never stop learning in this industry. You have to be prepared to search out all these fabulous blogs and read some of what they have to say. You won’t regret it as it will enhance your knowledge and keep you hungry for more.

Have a great weekend and I’ll leave you with this thought: The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be ignited.
