Melbourne Cup Fever

Being based in Melbourne it is very hard to ignore Cup Fever. Just walking into Chadstone, my favourite and much frequented shopping centre, I found myself being jostled many times by women clutching a hat box in one hand and a shoe box and upmarket shopping bags in the other. It is the race that stops the nation and the race that brings fashion to the fields.
So, I thought it would be only appropriate to write a Melbourne Cup inspired blog this morning. As we have said countless times before, the special event industry is led in large by the fashion world. The trends and colours used today @ Flemington Race Course will no doubt show themselves in many corporate Xmas functions over the backend of November and first two weeks in December.
Look out for digital prints and florals. Some of the more forward thinking of punters will mix the two together in a bold statement. This trend is definately carrying itself through into the event world. The message is loud and clear – don’t be afraid to mix it up and combine unusual colours. And accessorize. Think old style glamour mixed with a modern twist.
Attention to detail is key, with the judges on the field looking for originality, style and the ability to blend the accessories so they look effortless. Does this ring any bells? It should do. As wedding and event planners that is exactly what we strive to achieve with every event that we plan and design.
I came across a great quote this morning from Jodie Bache-McLean, Director of June Dally-Watkins Brisbane. ‘Never underestimate the power of details – the last thing on is usually the first thing noticed.’ This could so easily apply to the tables at your event. Don’t overload them. Remember less is more. Just because you have 200 Tea Lights it doesn’t mean that you have to use them. You only have one chance to make a first impression and as Ms Bache-McLean alluded to, the last thing you pop onto your table will probably be the first thing your guests notice.
Good luck! And let’s hope we all backed a winner.
