Tip of the week – What if?

I have a little book called; “It’s never too late to….” by Australian Journalist, Patrick Lindsay.  I love this book because each page has a quote and some words of wisdom that remind us that it’s never too late to take control of our lives and find balance.  The word balance is used a lot and can be construed as being a bit ‘boring’.  For me the word is exciting.  Having balance means having an open mind and time and space in your life for all the things you want to do; the creative, the thrilling, the fulfilling, the worthwhile, the necessary and the mundane.
One of the messages in Patrick’s book is that; It’s never too late to… ‘Ask, What If?’  Here is what Patrick has to say about, asking ‘what if?’:
“Too often we simply accept things the way they are.  Why not look at the things that aren’t there and ask why.  Consider the alternatives.  Look for other options.  Go back to first principles.  Forge new paths.  Dream boldly.”
Each week I speak to people who are playing with the idea of studying and perhaps opening their own business.  The thought of starting a small business is scary, but I can always sense the excitement that bubbles under the surface for certain people I speak to.  Often I have exciting, inspiring conversations with these people but sometimes, I don’t speak to them again and despite their enthusiasm they don’t follow their dream of starting their own Wedding and Event Planning business.  Why?  Well obviously the reasons are different for everyone.  However I believe that for many people an influencing factor is fear.  Or more accurately, the fear they feel outweighs the courage required to take the next step.
Our Courses and our upcoming Weekend Power Workshop are all about preparing you for your career and your own business venture, but perhaps what I should also encourage anyone who is considering taking this step to do is to also ask themselves;  ‘What if?”
